Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee will decide Monday whether or not to recommend council approve Official Plan and rezoning changes to allow a large residential development on part of  the former Ben Bleecker building property in the west end.

If finally approved, the development would be on the northern part of the vacant land and would feature one 10-storey apartment building with 100 units, 37 townhouses, and outdoor amenity space.

The development is less intense than originally proposed when two apartment buildings were part of the plan.

Planning department staff are recommending the Official Plan and rezoning changes be approved, however, a hold on development is also recommended until environmental assessments are complete and satisfactory.

Meanwhile plans are in the works for a grocery store and other commercial development on the southern portion of the property.

The Planning Advisory Committee meets virtually Monday afternoon at 5:30.
