The former Ben Bleecker property has taken one more big step towards becoming the site of a new large-scale commercial development.

Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee approved rezoning and an Official Plan amendment to enable a 10-story apartment building and 37 townhouses to be constructed in the northern portion of 40 Yeomans Street.

In total, 137 residential units will be on the property, along with green space.

Special provisions will be in place for relief to building and yard setbacks, maximum height, parking requirements, and parking location provisions.

Dillon Consulting Firm representatives had proposed changes to the Official Plan to allow for this development to happen, including adjustments to the land use plan map.

The committee will now be sent to Belleville Council for final approval.

The property was once the site of the fairgrounds in Belleville.
