Quinte News chatted with the Executive Director of Bay of Quinte Tourism Dug Stevenson, to tee up 2023.
He says they are not just focused on people from around the province, country, or the world even.
“I think in many respects, people who live here still don’t consider us a destination, but how beautiful is this place?  We’re surrounded by water, we’re surrounded by nature, our prices are much better than the city.  Of course people want to visit here.”
He says it is not a challenge, it is an opportunity.
“We need, as communities and small businesses, to be working together to develop more things to do.”
“As people get back to travel, that everybody has got to be trying to do is creating tourism experiences. Instead of just going to ride on a ferris wheel, you’re going somewhere, you’re getting your hands dirty, you’re learning, you’re taking something away. This is the way tourism is going.”

Overnight stays increased year over year last year and corporate and sports stays are going up.

The focus on return visits is also a priority.

Stevenson says tourists are telling them they’re loving their experience in the Bay of Quinte region.
