Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings (Habitat PEH) is proud to announce a major milestone in its mission to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. The organization has confirmed the demolition date for the site of its upcoming 66-unit housing development, a transformative project that will provide safe and affordable homes for families in need across the region.

Demolition is scheduled to begin on September 9th, 2025, marking the official start of site preparation for the largest non-phased project in Habitat Canada’s history.

Located at 93 Dundas St., Belleville, this condominium project will feature one-, two- and threebedroom units designed to create an inclusive variety of availability for the Belleville community.

“This is more than building homes—it’s about shaping the future of our community. It’s a chance to create lasting change where families have the security of homeownership, neighbourhoods flourish, and our local economy thrives. Together, we can turn the dream of a stronger, more inclusive community into reality,” says Hazzem Koudsi, CEO Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings.

“Today is an exciting day for our city,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “This highly anticipated project addresses a significant gap within our community, and we are very pleased to commemorate this important milestone today. On behalf of the Council and the City of Belleville, I would like to congratulate the team at Habitat for Humanity on initiating this critical work and we look forward to celebrating its completion.”

The 66-unit development is part of Habitat PEH’s long-term vision to address the growing need for affordable homeownership opportunities in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. This project will not only offer secure and affordable homeownership options but also create a vibrant, inclusive space for families to grow — supported by thoughtfully integrated amenities such as a community center, daycare, and accessibility features.

“Environmentall Contracting is very proud to be part of Habitat PEH’s new flagship project, the transformation of 93 Dundas Street in Belleville,” Michael Compeau, Chief Operating Officer of Environmentall Contracting Services Inc shares. “While there is always a sense of nostalgia seeing an old building come down, we are inspired by what will take its place. Projects like this one is the most rewarding part of the demolition business… helping create new beginnings for many families in the community.”

Noted by Sheridan Jennings, Chair of the Board of Directors for Habitat PEH, “the housing crisis has made it clear that helping one family, one door at a time, is no longer enough. This investment in our community will almost triple our Habitat housing contribution in Prince Edward Hastings, providing significant relief to families who may no longer have seen the opportunity for homeownership.”

As Belleville continues to grow, this development will help ensure that no one is left behind — because everyone deserves a place to call home.

Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings invites community members, media, and supporters to join them on-site for a brief ceremony on demolition day to commemorate this exciting step forward.
